Finally we can finally congratulate ourselves on achieving the
move to our new premises at 855 Eumundi - Noosa Road,
Doonan.
It was an enormous job, and thank you to each and every one of
you who helped. To see the new Katie Rose Cottage now open and
caring for the termi-nally ill is truly awe-inspiring, and to see
the Guests being cared for by our in-credibly compassionate
R.N.'s is something to warm your heart, our Guests really
appreciate their loving care.
All our extraordinary Volunteers do the most amazing things. I
have personal-ly been able to see them performing their many
duties, from those who do housekeeping duties, helping care for
our Guests, Office Duties, working to create income in our Op
Shops, Fundraising and many more duties, you tackle every task
with great enthusiasm.
I have left the gardeners to last. What a fantastic job they have
done and are continuing to do to make the Gardens so
spec-tacular. In 6 months’ time they will look even better, and I
would invite everyone to come and enjoy them. In twelve months’
time not only will we be caring for the terminally ill, but also
winning garden competitions. I know that our Guests really
appreciate looking at the beautiful gardens.
I must also acknowledge those extremely generous people in our
Community who continually give to K.R.C. either with their
expertise/work or by purchasing much needed items.
Terry Clarke-Burrows is now back at the helm of Katie Rose
Cottage, and the clinical side is now oper-ating perfectly. Terry
and her Husband Alan are now living on site so not only do we
have Terry on hand 24 hours a day but as well a wonderful
handym
an and security.
In these very difficult financial time we have to work harder at
trying to secure those precious $$$$'s. Any help with fundraising
etc., would be greatly appreciated.
Our
thanks to Peter and Doreen Briggs, for opening their beauti-ful
garden at Camellia House, to raise funds for the Katie Rose
Cottage.
The weekend was a huge success and raised over $10.000 for the
Cottage to continue in its work.
Thanks also to Escape Travel, Who give a percentage to the
hospice from bookings made by "supporters of the hospice". Just
last month we donated $1200 through this scheme.

An
absolutely beautiful day, weather wise, was experi-enced at the
Barbecue for The Sunshine Coast Com-munity Hospice
Volunteers.
Approximately 100 plus people were present, which was wonderful
considering the short notice.
If you missed out on this day, visit our website, look for "New
Katie Rose Cottage" under Services to see how the day went &
what our new facility looks like, Great!.
Following
the big move into our new location along Eumundi-Noosa Road the
Sunshine Coasts Community Hospice, Katie Rose Cottage, continues
to serve the community with exemplary end of life care at no
personal cost to the guests.
With key personal in place, registered nurses, a full support
team, trained volunteers on duty 24/7 and direction towards a
positive and productive future, Katie Rose Cottage is regularly
accepting guests who, for some reason cannot complete their
life’s journey at home.
Apart from a small amount of scripting from the Government this
Charity relies solely on the goodness of the Community through
fund raising events and three retail outlets in Tewantin,
Mapleton and Aerodrome Road Maroochydore, selling pre-loved
clothing, offering the people of the Sunshine Coast a new and
exciting range of apparel and goods. An office housing volunteer
administration staff has also been set up within the complex to
centralize the running of the Charity in Maroochydore.
To this end the Sunshine Coast Community Hospice URGENTLY
requires volunteers, MEN & WOMEN up and down the coast to
help in the following areas:-
- To maintain fully staffed retail shops in Tewantin, Maroochydore and Mapleton
- To assist in a supportive capacity to the Registered Staff at Katie Rose Cottage
- To offer expertise in an administrative role and
IT
All training where required will be given at no cost to the
volunteer – it’s an extremely worthwhile community charity –
serv-ing the people of the Sunshine Coast and all we need is your
time, so come and join in the fun.

Our charity could not run without our dedicated volunteers. They
work in all sorts of areas to assist with caring for our guests
one way or another. One of our volunteers does something a little
different. For some time now, Caroline McNaughton has been making
jams and selling them to raise money for the Charity. Firstly she
delivered them to the shop in Noosaville, now they go to
Tewantin. She has made up baskets of jams and preserves for
raffles. Not so long ago, she sat at the Noosa Tewantin Marina
for four days, in the cold at times, selling her wares. On this
occasion she raised $1280. What an effort. Caroline has raised
about $2500 dollars over this time. Our congratulations to
Caroline and our sincere thanks for her ongoing efforts. I
understand that she is pretty clever at sourcing her product, her
fruit; she trades her jams for more fruit.
Another one of our volunteers Ruth Gibbins gets to the
Fisherman’s Road Markets on a Sunday morning, where she and her
friend Rosemary, shake their tins and collect donations from the
market patrons. Ruth has over about 3 years, collected $5000 for
the charity. Summer or winter, Ruth and Rosemary are out there,
spreading the word of our work and collecting.
Katie Rose Op Shop at The Atrium Centre in Tewantin held
a fashion parade on Wed. 22nd June to show off their shop's range
of winter fashions. 'Team Tewantin' were able to coerce their
fellow shop volunteers and even the odd husband, to do some
'modeling' in all shapes and sizes to highlight the diversity of
our range.
The show was held in the Atrium Arcade where the shop is located
near Chapters Cafe. It was held in a light hearted spirit which
was greatly appreciated by the 'street audience',
Fundraising continues to be busy with lots of events happening
past, present and future. By the time this newsletter comes out
we will have had a fun day at the Gympie Races. I must thank Deb
Forbes for the wonderful organization of this event. There is
huge amount of work to be done towards the Races and she has done
this single handedly, not easy for sure.

July 2nd and 3rd saw the Charity providing the refreshments for
the Camellia House Open Garden. Doreen and Peter Briggs opened
their beautiful garden to the public. This garden has almost 700
Camellias as well as some exotic fruit trees and other fine
specimens of plants and trees. It was well worth the visit.
Delicious refreshments were provided by our wonderful volunteers.
July 8th -10th we attended the Queensland Garden Expo in Nam-bour
where we were able to promote Katie Rose Cottage and run a raffle
as well.
These three events raised several thousand dollars for our
Charity.
Various events have been run in the community by the community in
recent months as well. We are so appreciative of these
organizations for supporting Katie Rose Cottage and we thank them
so much. It is our intention to list all significant donations on
our website as soon as we can, so that you, our SCCH family and
our supporters can see the support that we receive from the
community.
In order to keep up with current events and items of news re
fundraising, please do look at our website, we do try and keep
this site up to date. It is a very informative site and if you go
to www.sunshinehospice.org.au you will be able to follow what is
going on. I would like to thank all the volunteers who have come
out to help with these events, without you support, we would not
be able to carry them out. Bev Barton, Chair of
Fundraising.
Having lived my life in Queensland and holidaying as a
child on the Sun-shine Coast, I decided to move to the Sunshine
Coast eight years ago. Having seen the growth of the re-gion over
this time I can see the need for the Sunshine Coast Com-munity
Hospice’s facility of the Katie Rose Cottage for the terminally
ill.
As Executive Officer I see my role as a coordinator of the
various facets of our organisation to move forward as united
group with a common goal and realising that “Every Moment
Matters” for the terminally ill. I hold a Bachelor of Business in
Human Resource Management & Marketing and I am currently
studying for my Masters of Professional Accounting.
I have previously held senior management roles within small to
medium enterprises and have been responsible for revenues up to
$6million.
