The Sunshine Coast Community Hospice Ltd thanks the Rotary Club of Cooroy for our recent award. The Reg Bryant Memorial Award for excellence in Community Service was awarded to Katie Rose Cottage 2009-2010. Thank you to all our dedicated volunteers that help made this award possible.

" Reg Bryant was very involved in the Cooroy community for many years. Reg was instrumental in the setting up and building of Kabara Aged Care facility in Cooroy and a founding member of Cooroy Rotary Club. Reg continued his involvement in these and other community based interests until his death. Una, his widow, who is still an active member of Rotary, presents this plaque annually to a person or group who are making a difference to Cooroy and the surrounding community”
Eileen’s Message From Scotland
I would like to say a personal ‘Thank You’ to everyone on the Sunshine Coast for your dedicated work that you all do for terminally ill people like myself. I do have the priviledge of a 4 bed hospice on the Orkney Islands and would have found my journey of dying very difficult without their support. I have viewed your website and constantly talk about all your efforts to my own hospice team. Please feel free to share my picture taken in my new wig only weeks after my diagnosis. I only wanted to wear a bright wig.

Car Donated
Many months ago an application was put in to the Harcourts Foundation by Trish Green. Trish is a member of the Lioness Club of Caloundra and knew of the foundation. The Harcourts Foundation is part of Harcourts Real Estate. This company was founded in New Zealand where through the Foundation, they support charities, including many of the Hospices in New Zealand. As Trish is from New Zealand, she thought of the idea to apply for a grant for a car for the Sunshine Coast Community Hospice.
On August 6th, Bev Barton, Chairperson of Fundraising, was presented with a cheque for $14.000 to purchase a car for the Sunshine Coast Community Hospice from the Lioness President, Di Herring. The Lioness Club was so excited about this of course, so immediately Bev and Di took off to Caloundra City Autos to have a look at cars. The result is that we have purchased a little PINK Suzuki Alto. The car will get sign writing done, donated by Harcourts. When the car is ready it can be used for fundraising and other volunteer needs. What a wonderful gift!
Our thanks must go to the Lioness Club–Trish Green in particular–and to the Harcourts Foundation, for a most generous gift to this charity.
Bev Barton, Chairperson of Fundraising.
Volunteers
The Sunshine Coast Community Hospice is very proud to have a faithful and active team of volunteers helping in a variety of roles throughout the charity. Collectively they save the charity thousands of dollars each year, by providing their time and skills. We would certainly like to take this opportunity to thank our volunteer teams, for their valuable and ongoing support of the Sunshine Coast Community Hospice Ltd. We could not provide support care to terminally ill adults and children without you.
We are particularly interested in opening up our volunteer roles and opportunities in all areas of the organisation.
If you would like more information about volunteering please contact our volunteer coordinator Clytie on Tel: 0412 649 575 or Email: coordinatorfundraising@gmail.com
Fundraising Update
The past 3 months have been very busy with fundraising. I have seen a huge increase in the amount of money that has come in by way of fundraisers or donations. Our Gold Coin Collection bought in $7800 June 14th - 21st. Considering there were two public holidays in that week and the weather was very cold, we did very well. Many thanks to all those who braved the weather to come out and collect. We were so lucky to have so many wonderful organisations who came out and supported us with collectors on these days, my thanks to all of them.
The SCCH has received many large donations during this time from various service clubs and organisations. I can’t list them all, however I do wish to mention the Peachester quilters who ran a raffle over the weekend of May 28/29 and raised a total of $3600 for this Charity.Another Quilting group, the Sunshine Quilters had a luncheon and display of quilts up in Buderim and they presented the Charity with a cheque for $4000.
Rotary Clubs and Lions Clubs have presented cheques at the end of the financial year, a large donation came in from the Nambour RSL and so it goes on.
There are still many wonderful events coming up. May I suggest that you look at the Hospice website to see what has been and what is coming up.
MySunshineCoast, who donate the website to us, keep it up to date with lots of information. Any items of interest for publication can be forwarded to our media co-ordinator, Sandy at... media@sunshinehospice.org.au
May I take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped the Sunshine Coast Community Hospice Fundraising team. It has been a "stella” few months. To the general public who run events for us, a big thank you.
To all our wonderful volunteers who bake, make sandwiches and help with all the Buderim Male Choir concerts, thank you. These have been most successful.
To mention everything that has happened and is going to happen would take up an entire newsetter so apologies for not mentioning them all. Keep up the good work everyone, remember, the services we provide through this charity are free of all personal costs, fundraising is just so important to be able to do this.
Bev Barton Chairperson of Fundraising
Gift of Books to Katie Rose Cottage
The River Read Book Shop, 6 Thomas Street, Noosaville has gifted a book case full of beautiful quality books to Katie Rose Cottage. The owners of the shop will change the books each month. They would like the books to be enjoyed on loan by guests, carers and all volunteers for the Sunshine Coast Community Hospice. Katie Rose Cottage is delighted and very appreciative for such generous support.
