How wonderful it is to report that Katie Rose Cottage is finally operational, we can now offer exceptional loving and compassionate care to six Guests in their final weeks.

Terry, her team of R.N’s together with our volunteers are caring for our guests in such a loving awe-inspiring way. It makes you feel so proud that we are all associated with Katie Rose Cottage, and whatever that contribution may be we must now continue to raise the necessary dollars to enable us to do what we do best. Raising dollars is now more important than ever.

Terry is now re-inventing the “Tea Party”. It can easily be adapted to suit a “Coffee Party” a “Punch Party” a “Chardonnay Party” whatever your friends may  prefer.

Best wishes to Bev– hope you are feeling comfortable, and on the road to recovery.

From Peter Thompson partner of Vicki Miller

I’m writing to give accolades to what is likely the most wonderful institution on the Sunshine Coast.

Four months ago my partner Vicki Miller was diagnosed with advanced bone cancer and after four radium treatments, was given possibly less than a week to live. After two distressing weeks, the Palliative Care Unit at the Nambour Hospital suggested Vicki be moved to the hospice, Katie Rise Cottage at Doonan. This was where she spent her last six weeks.

I’m not a specifically religious person but the power of love is an undeniable energy and Katie Rose Cottage was a God-sent option. One can go out into the world and have difficulty finding people with genuine heart and compassion yet under one such roof qualities abound. With a registered nurse permanently at the cottage, a doctor on call twenty-four hours and a volume of loving, caring volunteers the hospice provided Vicki, in her last days, a quality of life unrealisable in most situations.

The staff’s compassion and care for guests, family members and friends is without equal.

You may not presently have a loved one who is dying, but please visit Terry Clarke-Burrows and any of the wonderful hospice staff who have stories to tell and who are all  of immense value as loving human beings.
It’s a community of like-minded people, you will be rewarded by your visit.

From the bottom of my heart I thank you, Katie Rose Cottage.

Over the last few weeks we have been delighted to witness the registered nurses and dedicated volunteers at Katie Rose Cottage deliver the highest standards of compassionate palliative nursing to the Sunshine Coasts terminally ill. Katie Rose Cottage is a truly dignified and respectful place, with six beautiful rooms, all with an ensuite, tv, air-conditioning and equipped with specialist nursing items. The cottage is a home away from home, situated in the established new peaceful gardens created by the wonderful volunteer gardening team.

Sue and I the co-founders of this facility, truly cannot believe at long last our vision is reality.

We sincerely ‘Thank’ each and everyone of you, from the board members, sponsors, volunteers, members of the public and palliative care providers in supporting our dream to happen! We are delighted to inform you that we have achieved our goal with 6 beds operational and all occupied with terminally ill guests in September.

This great achievement has been recorded in the milestone of the history of the Sunshine Coast Community Hospice Ltd so ‘Congratulations’ to us all.

We now will plan for the future. With your continued support and partnership we intend to go from strength to   strength with this innovative, valuable, compassionate service for terminally ill adults and children in our community.

Terry Clarke-Burrows

Following my return from holiday leave recently, I was humbled and delighted to experience the happenings at Katie Rose Cottage. Terry and the team of nurses, support volunteers, the gardeners, Alan in maintenance, our musicians… the list goes on… all contributing selflessly and with passion to the provision of care to our guests. Externally, the shops and fundraising in full swing with the Board and our newly appointed Executive Officer, John, taking us to new heights, all ensuring the continuation of care.
Thank you All
Sue Story
Co-Founders...Registered Nurses at Katie Rose Cottage
It is wonderful to see the Co-Founders of Katie Rose Cottage Terry and Sue back at the helm again, we all thank you for the tireless effort you both so professionally give.

Dr David Kirkman. G.P.

David has lived in the area since 1979 and has been a doctor in Cooroy  all this time.
When asked what motivated him to give so freely of his time to Katie Rose Cottage he quietly  proceeded to tell me.

‘When I moved to the area and went into general practice, the focus at that time was more on delivering babies, Cooroy was still a young town then, having its own hospital. In the 80’s  obstetrics became a more specialised service with Mothers then going to major hospitals for prenatal treatment and delivery of their babies.’

Now with a more ageing community the need for Palliative care is on the increase. To David this is more of an art than a science when taking in all areas of palliative care. He feels that this  is now a significant part of general practise and is hoping that more and more doctors will come to embrace this part of medicine. There is a strong need in our community for chronic care.

David is a valuable and integral part of Katie Rose Cottage and is the 24 hour on call doctor for the cottage. He is always just a phone call away  and you can find him early of a morning visiting and working hand in hand with the RN’s to ensure that the high standard of care at the cottage is maintained for every guest.

...From Katie Rose Cottage, we thank you.
