A Community Palliative Care Nursing Service

The Sunshine Coast Community Hospice Ltd provides support care to terminally ill adults, children and their Carers living on the Sunshine Coast, from Gympie to Caloundra and surrounding districts.

Katie Rose Cottage a 6 bed facility is a beautiful extension to a person’s home, fully equipped and adapted to provide high quality nursing support care to those unable to manage their final journey in their own home.

Each Guest room is furnished with:

Carers are welcome to stay and sleep next to their loved one.

At Katie Rose Cottage we can provide our guest with the use of the following equipment:

Lounge Recliner
Handling Belt
Slide Sheet
First  Aid box
Feeding & drinking aids

Provide Palliative care nursing and medical supplies

Laundry and cooking facilities are available


All meals are provided free of charge for guests at Katie Rose Cottage, including special dietary requirements Tea, Coffee and Cold Drinks are available for friends and family members at any time.
(A gold coin donation is appreciated).
Parking is available within the facility grounds.

Admission Criteria:

Support services for Katie Rose Cottage are available for Guests with a terminal illness:

  •  Where their condition has progressed beyond the stage where curative treatment is effective and cure is not attainable.
  •  Who choose not to pursue curative treatment.
  • Who have a General Practitioner contact number available especially for out of hours.
  • Whose medications are prescribed by a General Practitioner and clearly labelled.
  • Guest and Carer give signed consent for delivery of support service by Katie Rose Cottage.
  • Costs of medical supplies & medications to be the responsibility of the guest and/or carer.
  • Katie Rose Cottage Nursing Service employed by SCCH Ltd can give support to Paediatric Guests and their Carer, if Medical Staff and GP assess the facility to be suitable.
  • Whose needs can be safely met at Katie Rose Cottage.
  • A Do Not Resuscitate NFR or Allow Natural Death order signed.

Admission will be determined by meeting the criteria, priority of need, and bed availability.

All those referred to our service will be assessed in person prior to admission

Referrals can be made by:

  • Queensland Health Palliative Care Services
  • General Practitioner (GP)
  • Individual or Family Member
