What’s happening at The Cottage By The Manager
Hello,
Greetings from Katie Rose Cottage.
I would like to assure all the community of the great news that Katie Rose Cottage is now fully operational in providing care to the terminally ill with the support of staff, board members and dedicated volunteers. Our guests are receiving excellent care and the nursing staff continues to do an excellent job with the support of so many in the community.
The admission numbers continue to grow and in a very short time we have now cared for over 55 guests with a total of over 800 nights care.
We are committed to ensuring the community that the cottage will continue to learn, develop and go from strength to strength.
Thank you to each of you for your support.
Although I am leaving my position as Nurse Manager, I have put in a submission to become a board member of SCCH Ltd. It is my intention, if I am successful in becoming a board member, to use my positive energy to support the present board in keeping the vision of this charity.
Wishing you a joyful Christmas and a Peaceful New Year.
Kindest Regards, Terry Clarke-Burrows
Katie Rose Cottage Manager

Fundraising with Bev
The Noosa Summer Charity Ball was a huge success.
Congratulations must go to the committee for their attention to
detail and their vision to make the “Roaring 20’s Evening” such a
great event.
The Sheraton Ballroom was turned in to a “Speakeasy” with bar
tables, couches, ottoman’s and such like. The Royal Navy Military
Band were excellent, they made you want to get up and dance.
Their repertoire of music took you from the 1920’s through the
Big Band times and on to the Rock and Roll. Most of the guests
had made the effort to dress up in the period. There was a 1928
Ford, driven in to the Ballroom and out on to the Veranda to add
to the effect of the night. So many people had their photos taken
with the car and the photographer, Dreamcoat Photography, donated
$5.00 of every photo that was ordered on the night.
The Auction raised a considerable amount of money as did the
raffles. There were about 30 raffle prizes, most valued over
$300.
The Sheraton provided continuous finger food and the staff were
on their toes all night serving drinks to the 200 guests that
were there.
I know that everyone there had a great night. The final amount of
money raised for Katie Rose Cottage was $21,000. What a wonderful
gift.
Our thanks must go to all the sponsors especially Noosa
Radiology, who put up a very substantial sponsorship.
The Christmas appeal has been kicked off and donations for this
appeal are starting to come in.
thanks to Alan Clarke Burrows for his efforts at the
Eumundi Markets, this is certainly raising awareness of the
charity as well as bringing in donations towards the on going
Gold Coin Appeal.
Last week I had the pleasure to attend a concert in Cooroy,
“Betty’s Tap Catz”. Betty has been teaching Tap dancing for many
years, she is well in to her 70’s now and still had so much
energy and desire to help others enjoy themselves. The Cooroy
Hall was packed, standing room only. They held a raffle which
raised just on $900 for Katie Rose Cottage.
What a pleasure it was to be able to attend this wonderful
concert and see ladies and men, mostly seniors, tap dancing and
having fun. The costumes were amazing and when I enquired who
made them, I was told,” Betty makes them all.”
A very big thank you to Betty and all your dancers, who also put
on a wonderful lunch for all those who attended.
Finally, may I wish you all a very happy Christmas and all the
best for the New Year.
All those involved in the Charity look forward to your ongoing
support in 2012.
Bev Barton.
Chair of Fundraising.
Snippets from the Gardeners
The clearing of the dam
area is progressing well. Now from the top gardens you are able
to see down to the dam, flourishing with graceful blue water
lilies, but there is still work to be done. We would like to
plant beautiful, water loving Swamp Cyprus pines here to
compliment this vista.
The gardeners have been drawing up plans for future landscaping
areas. This will enable our hospice supporters to donate memorial
trees as they have suggested to us.
Very exciting news, a son of one of the hospice guests was so
impressed with the wonderful hospice care of his mother that he
presented us with a brand new Stihl chainsaw – wow – what a super
surprise. With some of the money donated by the Eumundi Markets,
we have bought a Silky long handled cutter. This is a wonderful
tool that is very easy for the “lady” gardeners to use. We’ll
leave the chainsaw for the guys to play with.
More impending good gardening news next month – stay tuned.

November saw Terry conduct a training session for
volunteers on Manuel Handling, which was very well received by

programmes for all new volunteers, with numbers between 10 &
20 per session. It is wonderful to see the word spreading
throughout the community about Katie Rose Cottage
